About

Nicolas Cachanosky

Associate Professor of Economics and Director, Center for Free Enterprise at The University of Texas at El Paso.

I'm an Associate Professor of Economics and the Director of theCenter for Free Enterprise at The University of Texas at El Paso's Woody L. Hunt College of Business.

My research focuses on dollarization and monetary institutions, the political economy of populism, and capital theory. Much of it asks a practical question: which institutions actually constrain governments that want to inflate, and what does it cost a country when they don't? Argentina and Latin America are where I test most of these ideas.

My work has appeared in World Development, the Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization,Public Choice, the European Journal of Political Economy, theSouthern Economic Journal, and the Journal of the History of Economic Thought, among others. I am the author or co-author of five books, including Austrian Capital Theory(Cambridge University Press) and Dolarización: Una solución para la Argentina.

I write regularly on economic policy at Economic Order and teach money and banking, econometric forecasting, and business statistics at UTEP, where my course materials areopen textbooks.
